chCounter Widget 2.8

October 6th, 2009

After a long pause in plugin development I have begun to catch up with some coding work. As first step I have decided to remove the chCounter bundle from the Plugin due to installation and permission problems. Version 2.8 is now almost the same as the 2.6 versions except that the checkbox to make the counter invisible is part of the widget control panel and not general options.

Before installing the plugin you have to download chCounter and install it in any directory on your server. Next unzip the plugin files into the Wordpress plugin directory and activate it through the administration webinterface. Go to the settings page and insert the path to the directory where you have installed chCounter previously and add counter parameters to your list. You are now set to add the widget to a sidebar.

In this way chCounter can be installed and upgraded separately. In the end having it bundled with the plugin didn’t give that much advantage, but only several problems with file permissions and bug fixes.

    Always show:
Could not find the chcounter installation. Please check your settings.
I dont´t understand how to configure this information:
chCounter Path /home/xxx/public_html/xxxx/ path to your chCounter installation NOT this plugin

You first need to install chCounter from http://chcounter.org. Extract the zip file on your webserver, configure and install it. Afterwards put in the chCounter Widget Options the path to where you have extraced the chCounter zip file before.

    Hi,

Thanks for the great plugin. I’ve installed it and it works fantastically in English. However, I’m having problems with converting the display text to chinese, e.g. “Total visitors:”, “Visitors today:”, “Visitors yesterday:”, “Counter started:”, “Page views today:”, “Page views yesterday:”, “Your own page views:”, etc.

I’ve changed the chcounter-widget.php file with the translated text and also change the collation on the database to utf8-general-ci. However, all I see is ????? in the sidebar, where I have placed this widget.

    Please can you help?

    Thanks very much.
